Workshops run every week during the summer and introduce participants to a variety STEAM based activities. Groups are small with up to 10 participants and are open to all students who are entering, or currently in, middle school. Full descriptions can be found online. Young Hollywood Dates 6/25/2018 to 6/29/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 Learn about the art of stop motion animation. We will make a few different types of stop motion using different mediums like LEGO, clay, cardboard, foam and more! The group will produce short animations with sound and music to share.
Circus Skills 2.0 Dates 7/9/2018 to 7/13/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 Learn what it’s all about to be part of the circus. During this week we will be having special guests in a variety of different circus skills which may include, clowning, juggling, stilt walking, magic, skit creation, character development, and more. We will learn to walk on stilts and even build a pair of your very own.
5th Grade - Humanoid Robotics with NAO Dates 7/16/2018 to 7/20/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 This program designed for students entering 5th grade will explore programming NAO, one of the world’s most advanced humanoid robots. He can be programmed to tell stories, walk around, dance, hold conversations, run trivia games, and more using his graphical programming language. Students will work in small groups to design and test programs in this state of the art robot.
Arts & Culture Sampler Dates 7/16/2018 to 7/20/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 Calling all writers, photographers, and creators! In this week long workshop, we will dip our toes into a few different arts & culture programs. Based on what participants are enjoying most, we will alter our schedule throughout the week to fit those interests. This might mean that on some days, different kids might be doing different activities! We will experiment with creative writing, photography, design, and art. At the end of the week, we will create a magazine to showcase all of the work we’ve done together, and give each participant something to take home with them! Open to middle and high school students.
New Heights Cooking Week: Fierce Foodies Dates 7/23/2018 to 7/27/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 In this five day cooking workshop, kids will experiment with a variety of different recipes and cooking styles. We will come up with our own recipes, find some online, and also meet with local chefs to discuss tips and tricks! In addition, we will visit farms in the area to find the freshest ingredients, helping us explore the farm-to-table style while also supporting local businesses. We will also learn how to create awesome food on a budget! By the end of the week, we'll have a group of budding chefs who appreciate the idea that eating organic, whole foods is not only better for our bodies, but tastes great, too! Open to middle and high school students.
LEGO Robotics Boot Camp Dates 7/30/2018 to 8/3/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 Have fun while exploring the exciting world of robots in this introduction to our fall FIRST LEGO League teams! Using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics kit, participants will build and program robotic creations that use sensors to interact with their environment.
Photography & Blogging Dates 7/30/2018 to 8/3/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 During this week long workshop, we will work to capture the beauty that surrounds us without needing a fancy Nikon camera (although you are welcome to bring one if you’d like!) Participants are asked to not only bring their smartphones to this workshop, but actively use them to create top-of-the-line pictures! With a lunch break in between, half of our days will be spent exploring the seacoast area & taking pictures, while the other half will be spent collaborating with each other and editing our work. At the start of the week, we will create accounts on the popular VSCO photography blog app and will shoot to upload new photos to our virtual portfolios each day. Open to middle and high school students.
Video Game and Pinball Design Dates 8/6/2018 to 8/10/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 Create your own simple video game using Scratch & Stencyl and explore what makes a good game. Then take your creativity to the highest heights by designing and building your very own themed cardboard pinball machine with a kit and some found objects.
5th Grade STEM Extravaganza Dates 8/13/2018 to 8/17/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 This week is specificlly designed to give incoming 5th graders a taste of what STEM is at New Heights. We will work with LEGO robots, program our NAO humaniod robot, create an animation/video game, and show off our work to friends and family at a celebration. There is also time for the group to explore some of the tools that are used in our STEM space.

Young Writers Dates 8/20/2018 to 8/24/2018 Time: 9:00AM-3:00PM Cost: $300 Love to write but get bogged down by the pressure from grades and following all the rules? Unleash your writing potential in this low-stakes, judgement-free environment! We will explore a variety of different writing styles, from poetry all the way to journalism, but in the end you are free to choose what you write each session. A diverse collection of prompts will be provided for inspiration, including thought-provoking questions, videos, images, and songs. We will also explore our favorite books and stories for motivation! The goal of this program is for you to get to know yourself as a writer, and as a person. Express yourself, engage in society, and find truths-- all with just a pen & paper. Open to middle and high school students.
